*********NOTICE********
THIS IS A BETA VERSION. THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS REPORTED
ON SOME MACHINES. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS, PLEASE CONTACT THE AUTHOR
AT HINES_J@WVLINK.MPL.COM AND GIVE INFO ON WHAT COMPUTER USED, WHAT
VERSION OF THE OS, AND HOW MUCH RAM YOU HAVE. ALSO, A LISTING FROM
SNOOPDOS WOULD BE HELPFUL TOO.

T R E K - T H E G U I D E
v 1.6 DEMO
Released 11-09-95
_____________________________________________________________________
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
- Any Amiga computer with 1mb of ram and a hard drive with a least
6 mb free space and AmigaDos v2.04 or later.
- AmigaGuide (v40.4 of AmigaGuide library preferred. Included with OS3.1)
- ARexx by William Hawes (Included with Workbench 2.04 and later.
rexxmast MUST be running).
- RexxArpLib.library v3.3 or later (included)
- RexxReqTools.library 37.71 or later (included)
- iff.library (included)
- Commodore Installer program somewhere in your path.
- If you are using KS/WB 3.1, there appears to be a bug in the
amigaguide.datatype (v40.12). It still works fine, but one button
is always blue on any given page. I find it annoying, so I use the
WB3.0 version (v39.15).

INTRODUCTION
This project was started because I had recorded all the Star Trek
episodes over the last several years, and needed a way to catalog
them. A simple database with episode titles was simply not enough.
That would rely heavily on my memory as to what the episode was
about. So, here it is, a complete Star Trek Database with episode
synopsis, original airdates, pics and a complete guest cast listing.
The pics are scans of very rare episodical photos that were supplied
to television stations that carried the series. Unfortunately, most
TV stations trashed the photos whenever they were finished with them,
so the originals are hard to come by.

GETTING UP AND RUNNING
This package contains AmigaGuide documents written for v40.4, and
severial ARexx programs to suppliment it.
AMIGAGUIDE MUST BE IN YOUR SYS:UTILITIES DIRECTORY for Trek-The Guide
to function. Normally this would be found by your path statement, but
I have found several systems that STILL cannot find it even though the
paths have been set. (including one of my own) So, until I can figure
out a better method, this rule MUST apply. Sorry.
The installation process will copy a file called trekguide.prefs to
your envarc: directory. As of yet, the ONLY thing that this prefs
file contains is the actual screen size. eg. 640x400. The Trekguide
will not run at all without this file as it is parsed everytime
Trek-The.Guide runs. There is a very small rexx script included called
TG-Screen that will allow you to change ONLY the screen resolution.
The screenmode is ALWAYS high-res laced and cannot be changed with
the supplied TG-Screen script.
You may also change the prefs file with any text editor. The prefs
file is written in the form: 640|400. For best results, change these
numbers to the same as your Workbench screen. I prefer 672|452 myself.
Trek-The.Guide v1.6 has been greatly enhanced via ARexx, so ARexx must
be installed and running for it to function properly. When ran, it
first calls the RexxArpLib.library and opens a public custom screen
named TREKGUIDE in 4 bit resolution (16 colours). It then runs AmigaGuide
and places it on the newly created public screen. Most of the TNG
pages contain 1 or more buttons that will display rare promotional
photos. The photos will open in a window in front of the AmigaGuide
screen, hence the 16 colour palette. Multiple pics can also be opened
at once.
If you have any other AmigaGuide databases open at the time the
TrekGuide is opened, you will probably experience problems becauce
of ARexx addressing. Just close all amigaguides you have open and
then run Trek-The.guide. You can reopen them once the trekguide is
running.
There are nearly 200 pics included in the full ShareWare version
and more may be added as time permits.
I would also like to add full motion clips from various episodes. I
have several of them already captured, but the size of them does not
permit easy distribution via floppy disks. Plus, I believe Paramount
would require a licence fee to use them as well. Stay tuned on this
subject.
There are several ways to find or access a particular episode, the
easiest is to go to the index and click on it (they are listed by
series and alphabetically). Another way is to decide which series
(i.e. Next Generation or Originals), pick the season which it aired,
and then click on the episode title.
There are four buttons (not including the pic or soundFX buttons) below
each synopsis labeled 'MARK' 'UNMARK' 'VIEW' and 'WIPE'. These were
actually added for my own use when trying to decide which episode
to watch. When Trek-The.Guide is launched, it will create a directory
in your ram:env directory called TrekGuide. This directory is used for
the above listed functions.
MARK Adds the current episode to the marked list.
UNMARK Unmarks the current episode from the marked list.
VIEW Allows you to view the marked episodes and select any one
of them for instant access to that particular episode.
WIPE Deletes the entire marked list so that you may start over
fresh if you wish.
